On October 27, the Ministry of Agriculture held a symposium on the development of the Chinese medicinal materials industry in Beijing, proposing to develop characteristic authentic medicinal materials based on resource endowments. The "National Plan for the Construction of Authentic Medicinal Materials Production Bases" will be formulated to build a number of authentic medicinal materials production bases with a long history, distinctive characteristics, and outstanding advantages to help farmers increase their income and alleviate poverty and develop Chinese medicine.

 

The meeting pointed out that at present, my country has formed four authentic Chinese medicinal materials production areas in Northeast and North China, Jiangnan and South China, Southwest and Northwest. Chinese medicinal materials distributed in remote mountainous areas have a prominent role in increasing income and getting rid of poverty, and are an important source of local characteristic industries and farmers' income. We should closely focus on the main line of agricultural supply-side structural reform, gather key points, gather strength, strengthen the development of traditional Chinese medicine industry, and speed up the construction of authentic medicinal materials production base.

In recent years, the production and development of Chinese medicinal materials in my country has achieved remarkable results, and has formed the world's largest and most complete production system of Chinese medicinal materials. The production scale of Chinese herbal medicines is expanding, and more than 300 of the 600 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines commonly used are artificially cultivated. The planting area of traditional Chinese medicine is more than 3350 million mu, an increase of nearly 15 million mu over 2010. The level of science and technology has been steadily improved, and more than 50 kinds of endangered wild Chinese medicinal materials have been artificially planted. In the past 10 years, more than 230 excellent varieties have been bred and promoted, and a number of green and efficient technologies have been integrated and assembled.

 

The meeting stressed that the development of the traditional Chinese medicine industry should adhere to the problem orientation, strengthen overall planning and joint efforts under the framework of the inter-ministerial joint meeting system of the State Council on traditional Chinese medicine work, and speed up the formation of a new situation in which each performs its own duties, does its best, and promotes in coordination. Strengthen planning guidance and formulate the National Plan for the Construction of the Production Base of Authentic Medicinal Materials. We will promote scientific and technological innovation, speed up the formulation of measures for the management of Chinese herbal medicine seeds, integrate and assemble a number of green and efficient technology models, and speed up the registration of special pesticides. Promote standardized production, improve the standard system, guide farmers to produce in accordance with standards and technical regulations, and promote product quality and efficiency. Promote industrialized management, cultivate new business entities, and improve the degree of production organization. Cultivate new social service organizations and improve the rate of technology in place. Promote the combination of the production of Chinese medicinal materials with industrial poverty alleviation, leisure tourism, beautiful villages and the construction of small towns for health care, promote the traditional culture of Chinese medicine, and cultivate and develop new business models of Chinese medicinal materials.
